What is an off-road camper trailer?A towable camp that gives you a proper bed, shelter and outdoor living space without the bulk of a caravan.
Do I need a 4x4?No. Match your tow vehicle to the trailer's loaded mass and stay within the manufacturer's towing limits.
How long does setup take? Most Campready layouts are designed for a straightforward setup once you have completed the handover.

What makes a camper trailer different?

A camper trailer sits between a rooftop tent and a caravan: easier to tow and more flexible than a caravan, while offering more living comfort and storage than a rooftop tent. Compared with a ground tent, it gives you a ready-made sleeping platform and a dependable base when the weather turns.

Option Best for Trade-off Campready perspective
Camper trailer Flexible road trips and comfortable camp living Needs towing space and a setup routine Balanced comfort, mobility and outdoor living
Rooftop tent Minimal kit and quick overnight stops Climbing access and limited living space Good for light travel with a smaller footprint
Caravan Long stays with fixed indoor amenities Larger tow profile and campsite restrictions Comfortable, but less agile on narrow routes
Ground tent Low-cost, lightweight camping More setup and less weather separation Great simplicity when you already have the kit

Choose the right Campready trailer

All three trailers sleep four. The right choice depends on how you want to spend your evenings, how much off-grid time you expect and how much living space matters to your group.

Trailer Character Ideal trip Explore
Prima Compact all-rounder Easy touring, first-time towing and mixed routes View Prima
Stellar Extended off-grid solar layout Longer stays where power independence matters View Stellar

Towing and safety essentials

Before you leave

  • Check the vehicle's towing capacity, tow-ball rating and combined mass limits.
  • Confirm the electrical connection, tyres, lights, coupling and safety chain.
  • Use towing mirrors when the trailer blocks your normal rear view.
  • Secure loose gear low and close to the axle.

On gravel and sand

  • Slow down for corrugations, washouts, blind rises and loose shoulders.
  • Keep extra braking distance and take wider turns.
  • Check tyre pressures for the road and load conditions before leaving.
  • Confirm route and campsite restrictions before committing to remote tracks.

Collection, setup and packing

At collection

Collection takes place in Rondebosch, with Cape Town delivery options available where arranged. Allow time for the handover: you will learn hitching, safety checks, the kitchen, power equipment and how to pack the trailer away.

Pack smart

Bring warm layers, rain protection, personal bedding, food, drinking water, a headlamp, sunscreen and insect repellent. Keep frequently used items accessible and do not overload high storage areas.

Western Cape route ideas

Build your route around the pace you enjoy. A good camping itinerary leaves room for weather, gravel roads and one more beautiful stop.

West Coast

Pair Paternoster with West Coast National Park, especially during flower season.

Cederberg

Plan for mountain roads, clear night skies and cold evenings at Sanddrif or Kromrivier.

Overberg

Follow the coast through Kogelberg with time for farm stalls, viewpoints and quiet beaches.

Garden Route

Use Route 62 or the N2 for a longer loop with forest, lagoon and coastal camps.
